The colonial capital of North Carolina and birthplace of Pespi Cola, New Bern, NC is the second-oldest city in the state and has a population of about 23,000. History, natural beauty and recreation mix in this charming city, which is located at the confluence of the Trent and Neuse rivers. Havelock’s location, near where the Neuse River empties into the Atlantic Ocean, has cemented its naval ties from the start. Havelock was the initial landing point for Union troops in The Battle of New Bern during the United States Civil War. In the 19th century, the production of naval supplies – including turpentine and tar – were important parts of the local economy. Havelock became the home of MCAS Cherry Point in 1940. Havelock is located in Craven County about 20 miles from both New Bern, NC and the beaches of the Crystal Coast.

Jacksonville, North Carolina – This city of about 82,000 residents is located along the scenic Greater Topsail Beach area, along the Atlantic Ocean near the Croatan National Forest. It is best known as the home of the Marine Corps Base (MCM) Camp Lejeune and the Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) New River. MCB Camp Lejeune is currently home to several major Marine Corps commands and one U.S. Navy command. Its slogan, “Home of Expeditionary Forces in Readiness” reflects its mission to maintain combat-ready units for expeditionary deployment. MCAS New River provides technical training to enlisted personnel in operational maintenance and repair of aeronautical equipment and systems. Jacksonville is located in Onslow County about 37 miles from New Bern.

Morehead City, North Carolina
– This town of about 8,700 residents is home to one of the state’s two deep water ports (the other is in Wilmington) and several marine-research facilities including the Institute of Marine Sciences and the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries. It is also home to North Carolina Department of Transportation’s Ferry Division. Its location alongside the beaches of the Crystal Coast, near both the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores and Ft. Macon State Park, ensured its destiny as a popular tourist destination. The Town of Morehead City is located in Carteret County about 37 miles from New Bern.
